Consumption Monitoring

Understand How You Use Energy — and Use That to Save More

Consumption monitoring shows you how much electricity your household or business is using — both in real-time and historically. It helps you identify energy-hungry appliances, shift usage to solar hours, and plan smarter upgrades like battery storage.

Without consumption monitoring, you’re only seeing one side of the story: what your solar system produces. With monitoring, you can see both generation and usage — and make decisions that save money and improve efficiency.

Benefits of Consumption Monitoring:

Monitoring Solutions We Offer:

  • Inverter-Branded Energy Meters
Many leading inverter brands (like SolarEdge, Fronius, Sungrow) offer optional consumption meters that integrate directly with your system’s monitoring app.
  • Third-Party Monitors Energy Meters
Independent solutions like Catch Power/Solar Analytics can can monitor usage even without a compatible inverter.

Need help choosing the right solution?
Solar Fusion Solutions can help you integrate consumption monitoring with your solar system — whether during the initial system installation or later, as an upgrade.

Battery Storage

Store Your Solar. Power Your Independence.

Battery storage allows you to capture and use your solar energy even after the sun goes down — helping you reduce electricity bills, increase self-sufficiency, and keep the lights on during a blackout. But choosing the right battery requires careful planning around your energy usage, installation environment, and future goals.

Key factors to consider when selecting a battery system include:

Installation Safety & Compliance Matters

Where your battery is located isn’t just a practical consideration — it’s a safety and compliance requirement.

  • Garage Installations: If installed in a garage, the battery must be protected from possible vehicle impact. A bollard or wheel stop may be needed to prevent damage.
  • Near Living Areas: If mounted on a wall that backs onto a habitable room (e.g. bedroom or lounge), that wall may need to be fire-rated to comply with Australian Standards (AS/NZS 5139).
  • Clearances Required:
    • Minimum 600mm from any appliance (e.g. air-conditioner, water heater, gas connection)
    • Minimum 600mm from doors, windows, or exits
    • Sufficient clearance for ventilation and manufacturer-specified spacing
  • Outdoor Installations:
Batteries installed outdoors must be mounted in a shaded, protected area. Direct sun exposure, excessive heat, or poor airflow can lead to performance issues, shortened lifespan, or voided warranties. If shade isn’t available, a suitable battery enclosure or awning may be required.

Our licensed installers are trained to assess your site and ensure the battery is positioned safely and in full compliance with national standards and your product warranty.

Want to Join a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)?

  • If you’re considering joining a VPP, where your battery helps support the grid during peak demand and earns you rewards or savings, you may benefit from larger storage capacity.
  • VPPs can offer:
  • Bill credits or direct payments
  • Access to grid services and performance bonuses
  • Improved return on investment — especially for homes with more storage
  • Not all batteries are VPP-ready. We’ll make sure your system is compatible before you commit.

Batteries Sold in Australia

Some of the most common battery brands available include:
BYD, eCactus, Enphase, GoodWe, Jinko, Powerplus, Redback, Sigenergy, SolarEdge, SolPlanet, Sonnen, Sungrow, Tesla.

But not all are the same. Important differences include:

  • Energy capacity vs power output (how long it lasts vs how much it can deliver at once)
  • Indoor vs outdoor rating
  • Monitoring features and smart app integration
  • Warranty terms — some are limited by usage cycles, not just years
  • Local support and warranty servicing in Australia

EV chargers

Charge Smarter. Drive Cleaner.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are quickly becoming the future of transport — and installing a dedicated EV charger at home or your business makes charging faster, smarter, and more affordable.

But not all EV chargers are created equal. Some offer basic charging, while others can integrate with your solar system to ensure you’re using clean, self-generated energy to power your vehicle. Some can even schedule charging during off-peak times for maximum savings.

Why Install a Dedicated EV Charger?

Solar + EV Charging = Big Savings

If you already have solar (or are planning to install it), pairing it with a solar-aware EV charger can dramatically reduce your charging costs — and reduce your carbon footprint even further.

These chargers can detect when your solar system is exporting power and direct it into your car battery instead of the grid.

EV Charger Brands Available in Australia

Here are just a few of the EV chargers commonly sold and supported in Australia:

Fronius, SolPlanet, Sungrow, Zappi, ZJ Beny

Each brand offers different capabilities — from solar-aware charging and app control to load balancing and dynamic scheduling.

Shade Covers

Real Protection, Real Results

While many inverters and batteries are designed for outdoor use, that doesn’t mean they’re made to endure full sun exposure all day, every day. In fact, most manufacturers recommend that their equipment not be installed in direct sunlight, especially on north-, east-, or west-facing walls.

Ignoring this can lead to serious issues over time — not just performance degradation, but voided warranties and even permanent damage.

What Happens Without Shade Protection?

Why Install a Shade Cover?

A well-designed shade cover protects your equipment from direct sunlight, while allowing airflow and service access. Benefits include:

Hot water systems

Efficient Hot Water That Cuts Costs and Emissions

Water heating is one of the biggest energy users in Australian households — accounting for 15% to 30% of total electricity consumption, and up to 25% of total household greenhouse gas emissions. But with the right hot water system, you can significantly reduce both.

Why Upgrade to a Heat Pump?

Heat pump water heaters are one of the most energy-efficient options available today. Rather than generating heat directly, they use a refrigeration cycle to extract warmth from the air — similar to how an air conditioner works, but in reverse.

The result?

Ideal for Homes With Limited Roof Space

For homes with high energy demands but limited roof area, installing a heat pump water heater can be a strategic move.

Instead of trying to squeeze extra panels on your roof just to meet electric hot water demand, a heat pump lets you reduce your energy load — freeing up your solar system for other priorities like air conditioning, pool pumps, or EV charging.

Hot Water System Brands Available in Australia

Popular heat pump and renewable hot water system brands include:

Haier, iStore, Reclaim, Rheem, Rinnai

Each offers different tank sizes, smart controls, and integration options with solar and off-peak timers.

Our Approach

At Solar Fusion Solutions, we assess your energy usage, roof space, and future plans to recommend a hot water system that works for your needs. Whether it’s a standalone upgrade or part of a full solar + energy efficiency package, we’ll guide you through the best solution — and ensure its properly installed and compliant.
